Embracing constraints for multiple design solutions

- [Instructor] I admit that when you first start committing to the strategy of multiple design ideas, you may find it hard to come up with them. Some developers are particularly susceptible to what I call, solution lock. If they see one way to approach a problem, their mind locks in on it and they can't see alternatives. But it gets better with experience and practice. To help get through the initial tough period, an interesting technique is to force a constraint on yourself. The easiest constraint is to just pretend that the first idea has already been rejected. Pretend that the users didn't like it or perhaps some lawyers said you couldn't use it. What then would be an alternative? But I have other constraints that I've suggested to developers. After finding a number of them, I developed a little card game that serves to introduce creativity stimulating constraints into ideation. The course resources will have a document with the cards. They are made to be printed on business card…
