Dwell time

- How long should type linger or dwell on the screen before leaving the screen? The answer is, it depends. It depends on the content and length of your message, and it depends on your audience. Children and older adults may both need an extra bit of time to see and process text on the screen. Teens and young adults are accustomed to a faster pace, maybe because they've been raised on video games. For a general audience, in order for the type to be read on screen, it needs to remain, or dwell, on screen long enough for the eyes to take in the letter forms, and translate them into words. Film credits are an example of type that needs to dwell long enough to be readable. These credits are for an HBO documentary, "A Family Is A Family Is A Family".
