You can create a hand inked look in Adobe Photoshop, then replicate this process in Adobe Illustrator using an opacity mask and a vectorized scatter brush. This allows you to retain the artwork as 100% vectors.
- [Instructor] Welcome to Type Tips. … I'm Nigel French. … There are numerous ways to create a hand-inked … or distressed look to your text in Photoshop. … One of my favorite ways is to paint in the type … using a layer mask, … and in this episode of Type Tips, … I want to quickly show you that technique, … but I also want to show you how to do the equivalent … in Illustrator so that the artwork remains entirely vectors. … And what's more, … I'll be painting in Illustrator … using a Photoshop brush or at least a vector brush … that is derived from a Photoshop brush. … So I'm starting here in Photoshop … and I'm going to place, as a linked smart object, my text … that was created in Illustrator. … In this instance, I'm going to crop to the art box. … I'll press return to commit to that. … So to this vector smart object layer, … I'm going to add a layer mask … by holding down the option key and clicking … on the add mask icon. … That mask is black, … so it's obscuring everything. … I'll tap b to go to my brush tool …
