- [Instructor] Of course, fonts are not just letters. Picture fonts have a rich history and can include icons, cartographic symbols, musical notation, puzzle pieces and any other marks that lend themselves to being input through a keyboard. I created this font based upon the semaphore flag system. And this is the semaphore alphabet. First of all, just a couple of instances of semaphore in use. The logo for CND, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, more broadly known as the peace symbol is a composite of the semaphore for N, nuclear, and D, disarmament. The Beatles famously used semaphore on the cover of Help, although the letters they are spelling out are not H-E-L-P, but rather, N-U-J-V just because the photographer decided this was the most graphic arrangement.
