- The contents page in many magazines is unique. It's a place to really be expressive with the look and the vibe of your magazine. And to that end, I wanted to try some creative ideas. I was working on this page also without a grid, just freestyle, while I worked out my thinking, tightened it all up at the end on a grid. First thing, like the other pages, I set the section head in the upper left corner. Our contents page in Leaf & Mortar, we're calling Inside. This is set in peristyle. Then I borrowed from the idea from the Contributors page and wanted to isolate one person, I'm looking for a mix of people and things for the contents and so, I put this large portrait on the page and borrowed some techniques from the Cover course to start building grid-like elements on the page. Zoom in on this box and you can see we're dealing with this exactly the same as the cover.
