- Complex backgrounds create a special challenge for type in motion. In a moving image, you typically have a mixture of dark colors, light colors, patterns, and textures. These can create a kind of visual confusion or noise. We want to make sure that the typography can separate itself out of the noise so it is legible. Using large-scale letters, with strong contrast helps the typography stand out against noise. Your best choices will depend on the video content you are working with. In this clip, black type work the best to stand out against the background noise. And in this case, the pale blue does a fine job of standing out against a mostly dark background.
