- If short term ruts are born from routine and repetition, let's look at some ways to bust those recurring behaviors. Become a pattern hunter. Famed choreographer, Twyla Tharp, once said "More often than not I've found, a rut is the consequence "of sticking to tried and tested methods "that don't take into account how you "or the world has changed." The problem is that you don't realize that your world has changed and it changes every day. Despite this, you consciously or subconsciously create routine in your life. This isn't bad, per say, routines serve a purpose. But routine can inhibit your ability to see your every day new so you must learn how to first identify then break your routines. Routines are often tricky to see. We all have daily, weekly, and monthly routines, so start with your daily routines and move to weekly and monthly. What actions or behaviors do you repeatedly make?
