Ambient occlusion

- [Instructor] Adding highlights and shadows to form can be complex and difficult to understand, as there are many components in creating believable dimension. One of the most important components is called ambient occlusion. In this video I will describe and demonstrate how to use ambient occlusion to create a base dimension on all forms within our scene. So, you might be asking yourself, what is ambient occlusion? And typically it's used in a computer based rendering of 3D worlds, video games, visual effects environments. And basically, it identifies what areas are illuminated by ambient light, and what areas are occluded from ambient light. So regardless of the main light source, there are forms affected by the ambient light in real world environments, that create a subtle soft shadow, and highlight around all forms.
