- Welcome to type tips, I'm Nigel French and this week I'm going to talk about placeholder text. That dummy text, that faux Latin that designers use all the time to mock-up layouts until such time as the real text is ready. Well if you've used InDesign for any length of time I'm sure you've encountered this already, but there are a few extra things about placeholder text that you may not be aware of. First of all, let's just go over the basics. Select a frame. If it's a text frame you can select it with the selection tool or with the type tool and then come to type menu, fill with placeholder text. It's going to fill up as much space as there is in that frame. So that means that if you are in a frame that already has text in it then you just need to pad it out with some more text. You can return to fill with placeholder text and it will use up whatever space is available. We come and delete that now and this time I'll hold down the Command…
