What would you like new designers to know?

- What I'd like new designers to know is that design is important. I mean, it's a foundational part of life and of the world that we live in. Design is not decorating things but it's expressing the life of a thing, the vibe of a thing, the story of what the thing has to say. And it's easy to think of design as perfume that you sorta spritz on to make something look nice. But that's not at all what design is for. It really is, well, it's essential. How something looks has, completely influences how people respond to it. And therefore, how it does. So take it seriously and know that it matters. I think that's the thing that I would say is most important. It's not a trivial thing. It's an honorable profession and it's one that, when you get the look right, everybody who sees it will feel it. And it will change them, it will move them, it will touch them in some way and make things happen. That's what design can do. And I'd say just hold that in your heart and keep that in your mind.
