- Photos are a part of almost every design we make, and cropping, meaning to trim an image to a different size or shape is the most basic tool a designer has for working with photos. My name is John McWade and I am a senior author here at lynda.com. In this course, we'll look at all kinds of ways to crop photos to make them and your designs work best. We'll see seven different kinds of crops, from the standard hard crop to a split crop, a shape crop, and even a false crop.
We'll go over the basics of composing an image. Simply, where in the frame to put things. We'll crop to the extreme proportions of web banners and skyscraper ads. We'll standardize photos in a series, see how cropping can amp up intensity, and completely change the vibe of a photo, and we'll do all of it without any retouching or special effects. Cropping is the first step in designing with images. It's fun, it's creative, and it's challenging.
So let's get started.
