Join Kristin Ellison for an in-depth discussion in this video Design learning paths on Lynda.com, part of Getting Started in Graphic Design.
At Lynda.com, we have many learning paths for you to follow on your journey to becoming a better graphic designer. The learning paths are presented in the form of playlists. Playlists are organized lists of courses related to specific topics. Let's say you want to focus on strengthening your skills using type. Your playlist will begin with the Foundations of Typography. By learning good typographic practices, you'll develop an eye for type and be able to use it more effectively. With that under your belt, you can then explore some of our more advanced type courses or put those new skills to work with a project course focused on using type.
If you're new to a particular piece of software, your playlist may start with an Essential Training course that will provide you with a solid foundation. From there, you could try out some of our skills courses. For example, if you're learning Illustrator and want to create better illustrations, the Drawing Vector Graphics series is a great next step. You'll learn methodologies for drawing, designing and creating beautiful vector graphics. For more seasoned members ready to step out and start freelancing, the Running a Design Business playlist is a handy resource, with prices on courses and estimating, agreements, client briefs, presenting work, and the nuts and bolts of running a design business.
You'll have the information you need to keep your business on track so you can focus on designing. In addition to our curated playlists, you can also create and share your own playlists. To learn how, watch the course called How to use lynda.com. Take some time to explore the other great courses and add them to your playlist so you can get the most out of your learning experience.
To help you get started, Kristin curated a playlist of courses covering just the foundational elements of design. View and subscribe to the playlist here.
