Why draw the figure?

- Remember when you were a kid and your drawings were uninhibited and honest? As children, many of our first drawings included the figure and told visual stories about how we saw ourselves in relationship to others. There's an uninhibited urgency to tell stories through pictures for children. As adults, we often need to unlearn habits that don't serve us and find ways to loosen up and learn to see. Drawing is really all about learning to see, learning to connect with the physical world in front of us and interpret it with expressive accuracy. You'll need to figure out why you want to draw the figure. Recognizing your motivation or inspiration to draw the figure will enrich your drawing experience. I draw the figure because I love standing in front of the model knowing that there's a fleetingness to this practice, that it's immediate and you have to train yourself in reacting quickly.
