Using personas

Many agencies and design firms use personas as a way to humanize the target audience for everyone. What does this mean? It's basically an exercise in which you create fictional characters, maybe using stock photos or pretend names and characters to bring your audience to life. Sometimes it's easier to design a project with a real person in mind, even if that real person is fake, well you'll see what I mean. In our client interview we learned that race and ethnicity were a factor in why high achieving girls might be less likely to pursue careers and math and science. We learned that affluent white girls often do not pursue math because they have negative attitudes towards the subject. While minority girls may not pursue math because they have fewer career opportunities presented to them even though their attitudes are more positive. Both groups might feel discouraged by their peers and their community from pursuing academic careers in math and science but perhaps for different reasons.…
