And now for the grand finale of graphic design tools, typography. Few things have the power to persuade and tell a story better than words themselves and when you can pare the words down to their very essence and stylize them in a pictoral arrangment, then you have magic. Words can be thought of as characters in a play. You have your main characters, your supporting cast and your stage direction. It's a decent analogy because good typography really begins and ends with the concept of hierarchy. At the minimum you must help your reader prioritize the information on the page. Typography's a core study in graphic design, one which warrants a lifetime of study for the serious designer. Although we're only going to scratch the surface here, I want to examine some great examples of typography with you and see how some of the things we're talking about with storytelling can come into play here.
