- Practicing simple 3D volumes will allow us to apply these shapes to our figure drawings. This will give our figures greater dimensionality and a sculptural quality. If we look at this master drawing here, we can see that this artist has already drawn with sculptural facets. We can simplify this even further by looking through this overlay, where we can really start to see that if we practice drawing blocks in different positions, we could start to get more dimensionality to our drawings. I've prepared a sheet that has some blocks from different angles and I want to go over a few different strategies for creating blocks from different views so that then you could apply that to your work. From the frontal view, the block might just be a square, but if we start to look at it from above or from below, here looking at it from above, we start to see across the top of this three-dimensional form.
