Capturing motion: Fluidity and rhythm

- Drawing the figure in motion is a great way to practice gesture and fluidity. Our model's gonna be moving very slowly in continuous motion. I'm gonna track her with my drawing. This is a fleeting process. It's really not about trying to capture any kind of finished situation. It's about really trying to feel what the model's doing. And doing a dance with her. You're really creating a record of her motion through space. So, most the time, I'm not even looking at my page. I'm just really trying to get a feeling for the stretch of the body, get a feeling for almost the emotional quality that's created by the torque of the body, the curve of the body. And really tracking structure in space. Letting your drawing echo her form, but not really be caught up in any kind of detail. And if you notice, I'm not really starting and stopping drawings. I'm really just trying to kind of create a sense of movement and fluidity with my line. A sense of stretch. So I'm echoing what she's doing. It's a…
