Join Stefan Mumaw for an in-depth discussion in this video Attempting to measure creativity, part of Creativity Bootcamp.
- Most of the time we spend creatively is learning how to execute on the ideas that we generate. Here on Lynda.com we've got so many courses that can teach you how to execute ideas with whatever degree of competence that you want. But what about getting better at the actual ideation? What if I told you you could actually become more creative over time? And then if that's really true, what if I could prove it? What if you could measure creativity? If it's a skill, we can.
Now, there's going to be a certain level of subjectivity that comes with this. Novelty inherently makes that true. But there's also a degree of concreteness to what we should be able to measure in the context of creativity. So I'm going to make a claim to you right now. I'm going to guarantee that you leave this room more creative than you walked in. For those of you watching at home, we're going to be using a bunch of exercises in order to prove this. These exercises are going to be best done in pairs, in teams.
You can do them alone, except for one, which has to be done in a pair. But you can do most of these alone. You'd benefit, you'll have a much greater benefit if you find a partner with these. And the good thing is here in this room, you're all partnered up already. You guys are going to be working together to solve a variety of creative exercises so that I can prove this theory to you in the time that we have, in just the hour that we're going to spend together. And the way I'm going to do, is I'm going to use these creative exercises and I'm going to use these as object lessons. And what I'm going to give you through this is I'm going to give you the three creative boot camp commands.
We are in creative boot camp right now. Just like a military boot camp, we're in creativity boot camp. I'm going to try to shove as much as I can at you and prove this that I can give you three creative boot camp commands and you can leave this room more creative than you walked in. You guys game, are you good? Alright, here we go.
