Arranging simple forms in space

- After structuring the body with expressive accuracy, it's time to begin exploring the basic masses that connect to that structure - the head, torso, and pelvis. These basic central masses all balance or counterbalance each other in space. The masses themselves have solidity, but the spinal segways between them are flexible. Building a drawing from structure to simplified lines would progress like this: We can begin with the core axis points of the body, shoulder to shoulder, hip to hip, plotting the points of the body eye to eye, even breast to breast, coming from the shoulder, down to the elbow, up to the hand, coming from the opposite shoulder, down to the elbow, down to the hand again. This hip point is high; we can let that carry us all the way down to the knee, and from the knee, all the way down to the foot planted in front. The opposite hip point is lower and come down to the opposite knee and back to the back foot. Once we've established these plotted points in space, we can…
