Join Craig Smallish for an in-depth discussion in this video Course case study, part of Designing a Print Ad.
As a case study for this course on designing a print ad, we'll be working through the process of developing advertisements for The Landon Hotel. After researching and familiarizing ourselves with the details of the Landon brand and identifying the message we'll be promoting through the print ads, we'll get up to speed with the creative part of the ad development. In the early stages of the creative process, we'll target three different rough concepts, that I feel have the best potential to become great add solutions. Focusing on the brand, we're going to take those three ideas through the development process.
During that process, we'll weigh the value of great ad copy. And examine a ways to help you find just the right words to communicate your message most effectively. Moving forward, we'll produce a healthy foundation of thumbnail sketches and prototypes, aimed at exploring a wide range of possible solutions for the designs. We'll also identify the best media resources to help us communicate our ideas most effectively. Whether it's photography, illustration, or type font selections, these are all the things that we'll be looking at as we work toward building the best print ad compositions.
Next, we'll look at ways to refine our designs by, tweaking the contrast, shape, and placement of our assets, throughout the layout. We'll even explore beyond the boundaries of the page itself. Finally, we're going to produce our final comps, and examine the important details of presenting our print ads to the client. At the tail end, we'll have developed three different print ad comps. Each powerful at grabbing a reader's attention and successful at delivering the ad message.
