What are you going to use your sketches for?
- What I wanna talk about now is how you can get the most out of your sketchbook and use it for gathering reference materials when you're out on location. So, instead of taking a photograph first and then making a sketch from that, using your sketchbook can be so handy to kind of use that as your viewfinder to look for the view to start with. When you're considering doing a sketch of a scene, you consider it so much more closely due to the time you're gonna be investing in that actual drawing. Then when you're happy with that, you can always add a reference photograph for color later on. Because of my paints where I use my sketch books for my preliminary work for my paintings. And here's an insight into the information gathering I did for this painting called Broadford. The sketches that you do can often spark a new direction or a new idea in your paintings, just from the very act of creating them.
