Sketching a composition

- Leave one of these oars touching the water just to keep its... the boat wants the water, wants to be connected to the water in my mind, if I personify it. So, for me, the idea is that if you imagine the tree and the boat together then perhaps the boat always has just one little foot in the water, just to be connected to what is important, but is committed to the tree. Another thing is trying to establish this wonderful organic nature of the tree it's part of the texture for this composition that will create interest because you don't want it to all be focused down here. Right now, the boat is a pretty important element to focus on so I'm trying to make sure that the tree balances it out but I also want to make sure I'm splitting the composition in two thirds so I'm going to pay attention to where these branches are landing. I'm not going to make it in thirds, that would weaken the composition. So I'm going to break into this space to tell about the tree but also help the composition…
