- Drawing is a progressive, creative skill. Rarely do you sit down and draw something perfect the first time. More than likely, you have to keep drawing, erasing and redrawing and improving your drawing as you go along one incremental step upon another. As I've said before practice doesn't make perfect. Process does. The creative process Stephanie Smith uses to draw out her artwork demonstrates this well. She's graciously agreed to let me share that with you. So let me show you how a talented drawer like Stephanie approaches her artwork. So we're gonna dive into Stephanie's creative process as she works through an illustration and she utilizes Drawing. It all starts in analog. You can see in this inset box here that her initial beginning on this design she's working out started with a very very lose gestured drawing, thumbnail drawing.
