Small shifts in scale with big results

I like to show you how even small changes in your typography can have a big effect. Einstein and I both have a theory of relativity but mine is a whole lot easier to understand. Typographically speaking everything exists in relation to everything else. When you change one aspect of the type in your design, whether it is the choice of font, size, weight, color, case, position, orientation, column width or leading, it has an effect on everything else. Let's compare how a change in size can affect a viewer's perception. Here all the type is the same point size. But if I change the size of the and big thing, the word next appears to be a lot larger even though I haven't changed it all. It only appears larger because it is visually compared to nearby elements. Even small changes affect the surrounding elements because everything exists in relation to everything else.
