- Hello there. My name is Bonnie Siegler and it is my pleasure you welcome you to this course about art direction. I'm going to tell you what art direction is, what it even means to be an art director, what the job entails, and how you might go about becoming an art director one day. I'm the founder of a design studio called eight and a half. We work in all different kinds of media and always have because our strength is in interpreting, communicating, and visualizing ideas and brands through whatever media necessary. This wide array of projects is just one example why art direction is such a complex, difficult to describe job. It can entail so many different responsibilities and skills, and everyone handles it differently. Despite these differences, there are skills that art directors share. There are also things that you can work on early in your career, to help you eventually reach the role of art director. And I do think being aware of these traits that successful art directors share, can help guide your path.
