- Mail is entered into the postal stream in three different volumes. Individually, this is the mail that you would stamp and drop into the mailbox. As presorted letters in trays, or as presorted flats in mail sacks. And lastly, as pallets of trays or mail sacks. And the greater the workshare, the greater the discount on postage. So there's a reason why you pay a lot more for an individual first class letter or flat when you mail it. Because it probably doesn't have a standardized address, and it needs a barcode, and sorting. However, if you're mailing hundreds or thousands of mailpieces or more, and your address list is standardized, and your printer applies the barcode in advance, and sorts the pieces by zip code, you're going to get a direct benefit from that workshare, reflected in lower postage costs, which is just smart mailing.
