Classes of mail
- The US postal service separates mail into classes, and each class has different pricing, service levels, and requirements. It can be a little confusing, so let's go over the basics. The highest class of mail is priority mail and priority mail express. This class of mail offers the highest level of service, the fastest delivery, and also the highest rates. Most marketers are not using this class of mail for their marketing campaigns unless they're doing a very high level targeted campaign to high value targets. Priority mail is usually delivered in two days, and priority mail express is usually overnight delivery, and it's the only delivery method that has a delivery guarantee. One interesting little factoid is that priority mail express is actually processed by FedEx. They pick up the mail from the USPS and deliver it to the destination post office where the USPS then delivers it to the addressee, fascinating isn't it?
