- [Instructor] Next in our Oracle background process tour is the LREG process, or listener registration process. The LREG process has a very straightforward role in the Oracle database architecture. It is responsible for registering the Oracle instance with the Oracle network listener. Wait, what? The Oracle listener? Well, that's new. Yep, it is. The Oracle network listener, often shortened to just Oracle listener or even just listener, is the process that is responsible for accepting remote incoming user connections and start up the required Oracle server processes to serve these connections. Yes, that's right, we've previously talked about how individual users' sessions connecting to an Oracle database will get a dedicated server process to perform the various duties on their behalf.
