- [Instructor] In this video I'll show you the steps required to download the Oracle 12c Database software and place it on your Linux server so that you can start installation. The first thing you'll need to do is switch to the root user in your terminal window by typing SU, space, dash, specifying the root password, and creating the folder where you want to download the Oracle software to. Remember, this is not the folder where we'll install the Oracle software, this is just a temporary folder that will hold the download files we get from Oracle.com. In my environment, I'm going to create the orasoft directory. I'm also going to change the ownership of this directory so that it will be owned by the Oracle operating system user and the O install group. Also, I'm going to set the password for the Oracle operating system user because in our next step, we'll have to log on to the server with the Oracle user, and initiate the download.
