- [Curt] Hi, I'm Curt Frye. Welcome to the course. The gambling industry and it's neighbor, fantasy sports competitions, attract millions of players every year. Gambling, or gaming as the industry prefers to call it, offers games designed with a careful mixture of math and psychology. Fantasy sports offers straight-up competition you can play for fun or money over the course of a season or even a day. In this course, I'll provide a non-technical introduction to gaming and fantasy sports, but I haven't left out all the math; it's important. I'll start with a look at how casinos design their games, before turning to slot machines, the traditional table games, poker, and sports betting. I'll also discuss comps, which is short for complimentaries, that casinos use to entice you to play. After that I'll look at fantasy sports, from your friendly NCAA basketball tournament bracket challenge, to fantasy sports competitions played over a season, or within a single day. I hope you enjoy this course. I learned a lot putting it together, and I'm sure you'll find new information that will let you approach gaming and fantasy sports as an informed consumer.
