The field continues to mature and grow and it seems as though new methods, agreements, and controversies pop up every few months. If you want to get the current state of thinking about meta-analysis, you might want to search for websites that cover the Reproducibility Project which attempts to replicate important empirical findings in fields such as medicine and psychology with the aim of confirming them where possible and finding the reasons if the studies fail to replicate. Meta-analysis, which seeks to quantify the strength of a given treatment or other phenomenon, is an important tool in the Reproducibility Project's kit.
