How did your parents influence you?

(bright music) - [Man] Can you talk a little bit about how your parents influenced you in your upbringing? - Well, I was very fortunate. I grew up in an environment where I had my father primarily, my mother had a mental illness. So I wasn't really able to engage with her as much. But my grandparents did a phenomenal job of helping take care of me. And so I grew up in an incredibly nurturing environment with grandparents and a father who was very focused, not just on building a company, but also trying to make sure that, that we looked at things in a creative way, and so, he had a lab, and, and it, where he was building his computers and different things. He was a professor at the time, and we had the ability to just kind of go in and play with the stuff. And so, you know, I grew up just kind of playing with electronics and different goods and other things, so it, it was a very nurturing kind of environment to just be able to say, hey, look, here's a bunch of electrical components, what happens if you wire this together? What does that look like? And that was an incredible joy. And I remember, even when I was getting in trouble, always being very surprised that my dad had this, almost blase attitude towards it, and I think its because he was sort of realizing, like, no you're trying to figure it out. You're trying to figure out who you are. And what was encouraging is that I just stay focused on trying to figure out what is it that I wanna work on? What is it, the kind of person that I wanna be?
