How is data used worldwide?

(uptempo music) - [Man] Do you have any examples from around the world that are particularly compelling? - There's, people around the world are doing just an unbelievable set of things. You know, one of the ones that's very powerful, first, is that many people around the world are working on datasets that are from the United States. Almost anybody who studies and works on weather uses data from the United States because our data's open. And so we benefit disproportionately because everyone works on our data. But there's many other great datasets that are happening just within those countries. There was one. I met a group of just very young entrepreneurial people out of the state of Maharashtra in India where they're looking and focused on this question of farmer suicide and the questions around drought and climate change and how do you make sure we get ahead of this problem of people who are committing suicide because they're livelihood has been destroyed because they're agricultural. There's people who are looking at new ways of providing services in the countries to ensure that people are connected with the services. Kids get a chance to eat. And so we're just at this beginning of scratching the surface of how data can be used to be this force multiplier for good and positive change. (uptempo music)
