- Unless you have a super high end machine, eventually you're going to find yourself in a situation where you're not getting real time playback out of your machine. Now, if it's a 24 frame per second timeline, and you're playing back at 20 frames per second, not a big deal, but what happens if you add an OpenFX plugin and it gets really, really sluggish? What happens if you're working with Camera Raw and it gets really, really sluggish? What happens is you can't judge the quality of your work. You pull a key, you can't tell if your key's chattering. You can't see what the effect, the OpenFX plugin, is having on your image at that slow a frame rate. So, what DaVinci Resolve has for us is the render cache. There are two modes to the render cache. In both, the concept's the same. We are going to take the clip that can't play back, it's only playing back at five frames per second, we're going to render it out, and then use the render for playback. And then it'll play back at full speed…
