Primary color wheels: Lift Gamma Gain brightness
- Now that we've looked at the Offset control, the three-way color corrector controls, the Lift, Gamma, Gain controls work exactly like the Offset control does except they're limited by tonality. Now, when colorists talk about tonality, they're talking about the brightness of an image, the brightness scale from pure black to pure white. That's tone. And so let's take a look at Lift, Gamma, Gain, and what I've done is I'm on the timeline 08_03 3Way Color Correctors, if you're following along, and I'm on the very first shot here, which is this gradient ramp, which I've already explained I love using the gradient ramp to explain these tools because it makes it so clear what's going on. What we're going to do is start on the Lift. So the actual controls for Lift work exactly the same way as they do for Offset, but notice what happens. In Offset, when I make a big change here, the entire image moves up and down. You can see the whole thing moving as a unified unit. When I make this change…
