Patrick finds himself doing something he rarely does when doing his initial color correcting… key framing and reconstructing a color channel. He has to do this since the footage came from a cell phone camera at twilight and needs some additional attention to ‘save’ the shot. He’ll be doing more work on it later, this movie is just about the initial base grade that prepares this shot for additional work later in the color correction process.

- Here in chapter 10 in our in-action chapters…we're going to start doing some shot matching.…But before we get there, since we didn't grade…all of these shots together, I figured what I'd do…is take a look at the cold open and show you…some of the more interesting things I encountered,…and some of the solutions I used to solve…some of those problems.…Let's start here on shot 22, which is this interview set up.…I actually ended up doing this two different ways.…Here in shot 12 I just did a straight up grade,…I didn't add much saturation, I thought this was…a fairly colorful image. When I got to shot 22 I thought…I'd try something a little different, and I came down…and rather than using saturation I used color boost.…
Remember, color boost takes relatively unsaturated…areas of the image and tries boosting them up,…and that's what I did here, gave her a little more skin tone…effect, now that I look at it I'll back it off just a touch.…But it looks a little bit different than what I had done…here on shot 12, and we'll figure it out later…
