The Documentary: Importing an XML file, method 1

- We're continuing to build where we left off in our previous movie on creating a timeline. As I said at the end of that movie, there's another way of pulling in a timeline, one that's been built for us, possibly by an editor or an assistant editor, and that's an XML. An XML is a file format that describes a timeline and allows me to pull in, say, a timeline from Premier into DaVinci Resolve and I've got an XML that we can import into here just so I can show you what this routine looks like. That's what we're going to cover here in this movie. How do I pull in an XML? There are a couple of ways. I can go to File, Import, AAF EDL XML. They're all kind of the same thing. AAF tends to be the Avid flavor of an XML, if you're working in Avid Media Composer. EDL edit decision list is a 40 year old format designed to do what an XML does, except it's 40 years old. They didn't have multi track timelines at the time. They didn't have all the craziness you can do in a non-linear editor today…
