Colorist lingo: What is shot matching? (Keynote)

- In this chapter, we're talking about shot matching. But first, I want to lay the foundation of what the workflow look like and what it is we're trying to achieve. So what precisely do we mean by the term shot matching? At its core, shot matching is about taking individual shots and making them look and feel like the shots that surround them. What you're looking for is seamless continuity. Shot matching is an extension of what the editor is trying to achieve, ensure that there is nothing that calls out our edit points. The editor does this by following certain rules: matching action across an edit point, paying attention to sight lines, and not crossing the 180 degree line. The colorist helps the editor by paying attention to brightness, luminance, saturation, and hue. As we cut from shot to shot, these elements must match each other as closely as possible.
