So far in this chapter I have described parameter fields that use a static set of values. Now learn how to create dynamic parameter fields that draw their values from a data source such as a report field. Dynamic parameters are perfect for value sets that could easily change rapidly.
- [Instructor] So far in this chapter I have described…a parameter fields that use a static set of values.…In this movie I will show you how to create…dynamic parameter fields that draw their values…from a data source such as a report field.…My sample file is the dynamic report,…and you can find it in the chapter eight folder…of the exercise files collection.…First we need to create a new parameter field.…To do that we work in the field explorer.…So I have the field explorer task pin here on the right.…If you don't see it, you can display it…by going to the view menu and clicking field explorer.…
Once it's displayed click parameter fields,…and then on the tool bar click the new button.…Now in the create new parameter dialogue box…type a name for your parameter,…and that's here in the name box.…I'll call it category.…Next identify the type of data.…We have string data, so I'll leave it at string…but I could have currency, date, date time,…or numbers and so on.…And then finally we have the list of values.…We can either have a static list that we enter in ourselves,…
