- [Nigel] Hi, I'm Nigel French. Welcome to Type Tips. Column rules in InDesign. They may not be the most exciting typographic feature in the world but if you've been using column rules and drawing them manually, you'll like how time saving they are. They are mostly self-explanatory but there are a few things to consider. First of all, we turn them on and off in our text frame Options. So select the text frame. Either come to the Object menu, Choose Text Frame Options, Command or Control + B or Alt or Option + double-click the text frame. Column Rules, turn them on right there. We can change the weight of the stroke and the type. I'm using just a solid line. No need to complicate things but if you wish, you can have a dotted or dashed line. And I've chosen the weight in this case because it's slightly less than the weight of the vertical strokes of my type and I like how that looks with my type. I don't want the…
