Desert island type
- [Instructor] In the UK, there is a popular long running radio show called, "Desert Island Discs." Its premise is that each week a celebrity is cast away to a desert island and they choose only eight pieces of music to take with them. You can download the program as a podcast and I highly recommend it. It's a compelling format. One that you can adapt to just about anything. Photographs, books, movies, maybe even type. If you had to slim down your font menu from thousands, hundreds, scores, to just eight typefaces, what would they be and why? My first desert island typeface would be Adobe Caslon Pro because it's so readable. If I need to set text for continuous reading, long passages of text, you can't really go wrong with Adobe Caslon pro. It has a wide range of open type characters, like small caps, ligatures, different numeral styles, and look how gorgeous that Q is. It even has an associated ornaments set. For…
