In this video learn from online marketing strategist, Megan Adams, what an ebook is, the various ebook publishing platforms and how they work, along with the distribution process. Start thinking about the types of ebook you could begin creating and the goals you have for doing so.
- [Narrator] Ebooks are an innovative way to share information because of their digital nature. They're electronic books made available online for people to download to an e-reading device or to their computer. They can be self-published or published through a traditional publishing house and cover a range of topics and genres. Ebooks make a great medium for content marketers, businesses, authors, and anyone looking to share information with a specific group of people as there is no restriction on the type of content contained. You can have fiction, non-fiction, auto-biographies, how-tos, information on businesses, white papers and on.
Another perk of an ebook is the accessibility to the reader. Ebooks make the spontaneous urge to read easy since you only need to download it to your e-reader or computer and you'll have it in your hands in a matter of seconds. There's no waiting for anything in the mail or driving to the bookstore only to find that it's not in stock. Now, there are still a lot of people that love the physical book, myself included, as we do lose the tactile sensations, smell, and there is the nostalgia of carrying around a good book, but if you are using ebooks to market your business, the expediency, mobility, and the inexpensiveness to buy and create them far outweighs any issues people may have.
Let me share a quick story about a woman that has changed the publishing industry forever. Now, notice my disclaimer, results are most definitely not typical, but this example speaks to the sheer potential of ebooks and their disruption to content marketing and book publishing. Meet Amanda Hocking, ebook millionaire. Working a full-time job and writing in the evening sometimes up to 8-10 hours at a time, Amanda read an article about self-publishing online and decided to give it a shot.
Publishers weren't biting on here current books so she decided to post one of them in Kindle format to sell on Amazon. Turns out people loved her book and her series and her ebook sales brought in $6,000 in royalties in the first month. And she really is most famously known for being an ebook millionnaire with making over a million dollars in these royalties in under a year. Here you can see the power of the ebook and internet publishing and shows you the immense potential ebooks have to help you find and captivate your audience.
So, have I got you thinking? I really hope so. What is it that you have to share with the world? And take a moment to jot down any initial ideas that come to you. Don't sensor them, they may be a making of a great ebook.
