In this video, learn how to edit your home page to choose a layout, add or remove page elements, and add descriptive text that will act as an overview for the space.
- [Narrator] When you create a space it's time to start thinking about what's going to appear in that space, what the pages are going to look like, what they'll contain. And we're going to start in this movie with what we're looking at right now, our homepage. The very first page that's created by default when you create a space is the homepage. It's the landing page, if you will. We created one for our housekeeping staff. This is where they'll arrive when they come to this space and start browsing through the various pages and content we'll be adding a little bit later on.
But this home page can be customized and that's exactly what we're going to do in this movie. For example, we don't need this tip at the top you probably don't need these tips down below anymore we can add our own content. Might want to change up the layout and what's going to appear like is there going to be a blog stream do we want to show the team? Et cetera, these are all things that can be edited by clicking the edit button. Just like it suggests right here in this first of the list of things we might want to do. Click edit to start editing your homepage.
The edit button is the pencil we see up here near the top. So go ahead and give it a click and you'll be editing now your homepage it's called Housekeeping. We can change the name from here if we wanted to by clicking up top and adding content, changing it I'm going to add Staff, there we go. This page end space dedicated to our Housekeeping Staff. Now down below we see that we have a welcome tip and we also see that list of suggested things and different sections, you can see them how they show up side by side in some cases or straight across.
These are all part of the things that can be edited. Let's start with this tip under welcome. When we click it, you can see some buttons actually show up to either edit the content or remove it totally. This is macro-based, this particular section so we do get the buttons for easy removal for example. Click remove and away it goes. Now we're left with content down below. Next, you might want to and there's the list of four items which we don't need.
So again, we can click all of that and drag right over it from beginning to end to remove it. All you have to do it hit your delete key or your backspace key to take it out and you can see now we're left with an empty section. There are things we can do up at the top. You can see formatting for example for our text, there's bullets and numbers that can be added, alignment options. Right here is the page layout option and that's for this section. When we click it, you're going to see some options like adding sections, removing sections maybe we don't even need this section anymore and when we have sections selected we can move them around as well even change the page layout if we wanted to.
If we click remove section we'll be removing the current section. Notice it disappears, we have another blank section that was simply used as a separator. Now we can start adding content here if we wanted to start typing in text for example. How about this space is dedicated to our housekeeping staff. I'm going to add something like visit here often for the latest updates on policy and procedures as well as news, there we go.
I'm going to hit enter here, or return if you're on a Mac just to leave an extra space between this section and what we see down below. Could add a blank section like we see down here before we get to the blog stream. This is a section we're not going to use you know you can click inside the section and simply remove it, maybe add it back later somewhere else, move things around, I like the layout right now but you can see there are some different options for layout. Let's click where it says the team, click there. Let's go up to these different layout options full width when we select it, you can see it now takes up the full width of the page and About Us appears down below.
Let's go back to this one too, even columns. You can see what's happening. There's one with smaller left-hand columns than right you can reverse it, go to three columns. Lots of different options here. If you've done something that you don't like can you undo it? Well you might be looking for an undo button. What about the keyboard shortcut on a Mac Command Z? Control Z on your Windows keyboard. Yes, each time you tap that you can see we're undoing things and we're back where we started.
So keep that in mind if you accidentally remove something or add something you didn't want, you can always undo it. Use the keyboard shortcut Control Z on a Windows PC Command Z here on the Mac. Now when you make changes, you might want to go down to the bottom here and see what that looks like. You'll notice that the changes are automatically getting updated, automatically saving changes. We can publish this, that means it will be updated the way we see it, we could close this without actually making those changes so they won't be visible.
Then we have the ellipses down here, click that because there's an option here to preview it before we publish the changes. So go ahead and hit Preview. It's going to give you an idea what it looks like okay it looks very different than what we saw earlier and if you like that, you can click Publish. If you don't, you can always click Edit to go back and make additional changes. When you're done, clicking Publish is going to do a couple of things. It's going to update your changes so that all people visiting the space will see them it's also going to notify people known as watchers.
When you add spaces to your favorites so it becomes one of your My Space Selections you are watching it and there are ways to watch and unwatch spaces, I'll talk about that a little bit later but anyone who's watching this space will be notified of the changes. If you don't want to notify them just want them to see them the next time deselect that check box before you click Publish. Command Enter, Control Enter on your keyboard is the shortcut.
So there's the changes, we see them. Can see our space now is starting to look a little bit more customized than when we started all thanks to this Edit button up here and editing your space and pages. What about personal spaces? Somewhere where you can work on your own know that people will not be able to access your space and see what's going on there until you're ready to share things it's called a personal space and we'll talk about that next.
