Join Von Glitschka for an in-depth discussion in this video Introduction to concepts, part of Learning the Concepts App.
- [Voiceover] Okay, we're gonna jump into the Concepts app, so I'm on my iPad and Concepts is down in the bottom navigation bar. We're just gonna click it to launch Concepts. And when you launch Concepts, it immediately takes you into what is called the gallery. The gallery is where all your projects are going to live, and it's how you'll access all the drawings for each specific project. And if you look in the bottom left-hand corner, you can see these dots represent all the different projects I have in my own gallery.
And to navigate this gallery, you can just swipe to the right to the next project. This one is diablo sketches. You swipe again to the right. This one is a logo project called Proper Gent. And, if I keep swiping to the right, you can see how it will bring in a new project and then display all the various drawings and content within that given project. So, you can swipe to the left. You can swipe to the right, and you can navigate, and if you look at the bottom left-hand corner, it'll tell you where you're at in your gallery.
This is how you can navigate from one project to the next. Now, in the gallery, you'll notice in the top left-hand corner is a plus icon for new. That's how you add a new project or a new file. I'm gonna go over that in an upcoming movie, but it will show up in your gallery when you're in this mode. And the me icon right to the right of that one, this is if you set up an account on a website called gravitar.com.
You can set up a custom avatar icon and then it will load it into there. I've never done that, but if you want to do that, you can do that as well. And then running down the left-hand side is all the specific information for this project. So it has the name and general of what the project is. You can edit that, just by simply clicking on it, and it will open up. You can type in whatever you want. So that works nicely that way. And all the other meta information, we're gonna go over that more specifically in an upcoming movie.
But that will be displayed for each given project within the gallery. So if we keep moving over, you can see additional projects. And we're gonna go ahead and go over to this specific project here. And this project is just a bunch of fun drawings. And so when you're in the gallery, let's say you want to go into one of these drawings. And we're gonna go into this Nice Hat drawing. So I'm just gonna click that specific drawing, and it will load this drawing into Concepts, and it'll open it up.
And you can see we immediately have a bunch of choices with all the tools on the left-hand side in the toolbar. I'm gonna go over each specific tool. This is just to briefly overview what is in the gallery and how you can jump into any given drawing, and either go back to an existing drawing like this, or, as you'll see in an upcoming movie, create a new drawing, and then create whatever you want. But this is just a bunch of artwork I was creating, really inspired by an artist called Jim Flora, and this is the artwork that kind of drew and created, inspired from his drawings.
But, one thing I'll show you really quickly is we'll just go ahead and select this color, and I'll go ahead and color his band on his hat. I like fedoras. Kinda have a fascination with them, actually. And it works really easy to pinch zoom on stuff, like traditional apps on the iPad. But there's all kinds of cool things you can do in Concepts. Concepts is continually changing, meaning it's always being updated, refined, and improved.
And that's the thing I love about it. Is the developer is really on top of it. They're really listening to the user base who uses this app. And they're customizing it so that the user can create an experience they want. They're not dictating things like a lot of other apps do that use on the iPad. Frankly, I find a lot of applications on the iPad somewhat frustrating because I want to do certain things and it won't let me, or it'll limit my choices by saying you only have ten layers, you can't have more layers.
Well, I like more flexibility than that. And this application does that in spades, and we're going to go over all the really cool features. Now, once you're in a drawing like this and you want to get back to the gallery with all your projects, you just tap the top icon in the left toolbar on the left-hand side. By the way, when you first open up Concepts, you can tell it what side you want your toolbar on. I'm right-handed, so I like having the toolbar on the left. If you're left-handed, you can choose to put the toolbar on the right-hand side.
So that's nice as well. So that will be prompted when you first open up the application. So you can set it however you wish, and then if you ever want to go back, you can go to the settings, which are in the gear icon at the bottom left. But, to get back to the gallery, we're gonna tap the top icon in the toolbar. And this will take us back to our gallery, back to all the drawings that are in this particular project. So, that's how the gallery works. This is how you navigate the gallery and you access all the drawings you create in the gallery, and I have a lot to show you moving forward with this application.
This app is called Concepts, and it's exactly how I use this app to explore my ideas and create art prints through the process of digital drawing. So think of the gallery as your foyer to creativity.
