- Few activities sharpen the focus of a learner as much as asking them to present to a group of their peers. Presentations are a great way to keep students and workshop attendees invested in the learning process. Presentations can take many forms. One particular approach I like to use is an improv-type presentation where the students have very little advanced warning or time to prepare their presentation. One day toward the end of the semester, I place small strips of paper, each with a topic on it that we covered during the semester. While not looking, students draw a piece of paper from a cup. They then read the paper and can keep it or turn it back in. However, if they turn it back in, they must present on the topic on the next piece of paper they draw. Then the student has one minute to prepare her presentation and one minute to actually present. Fellow students are provided an evaluation sheet with questions about how well the student presented and how well they knew the content.…
