- [Voiceover] Hello, I'm Eric Chappell and welcome to Designing Residential Projects with Civil 3D. When it comes to residential project design, Civil 3D is one of the most recognized and widely used products you'll encounter. And one that you'll definitely want to learn if you work or plan to work in the civil engineering field. In this course, you'll learn how to lay out lots using the Parcel Tools, and perform lot grading using the feature line and surface functions. Residential project design also includes road design and gravity pipe design.
So you'll want to complete the courses named Basic Roadway Design with Civil 3D and Gravity Pipe Design with Civil 3D, found right here at Lynda.com. As you work through this course, you'll start by gaining an understanding of the Parcel Tools. Then you'll learn how to create and edit parcel geometry. Next you'll learn how to annotate and control the display of parcels using Styles, Labels, and Tables. Then you'll switch gears to the topic of lot grading, and you'll learn to shape the land of individual lots in such a way that promotes good drainage without exceeding maximum slopes.
Finally, you'll learn how to combine your lot grading with other surfaces in the drawing to create one big master surface. After completing this course, in combination with the other courses mentioned earlier, you'll be ready to start tackling your own residential project designs. Now, let's get started with Designing Residential Projects with Civil 3D.
