Understanding storm design
- Another big part of site design is storm design. Let's talk a little bit about what storm design is all about. Over on the left here, we see a plan view of our finished development, and as you can imagine, we've got some pavement here in this parking lot. It ties with the drive way to a road out front. Then we got this strange looking thing over here on the left, and this actually happens to be a pond. So when it rains, after this project is constructed and a good heavy rain falls on this parking lot, rainwater runoff is going to collect on the pavement and start to flow across the pavement, and if we don't do anything to handle that, it's all going to pile up in this bottom corner and pour out, dump over the curb, and just cause all kinds of erosion. It's going to flood the road, keep on rolling down through someone else's property, and who knows what kinds of damage it's going to do with cutting out channels and eroding and flooding things downhill.
