Understanding assemblies

An assembly is one of the major components that makes up the corridor that represents your road design. In this video you will learn how assemblies are constructed and what role they play in bringing your corridor to life. Let's take a look at how corridors are created. A corridor is the combination of an alignment, profile and assembly. The alignment establishes the horizontal path of the road, and if I place my cursor near the center line of this corridor in plan view we can see the alignment highlighted. The alignment is only 2D and doesn't provide elevations. That's the job of the profile. The design profile is shown here in blue, and it is what defines how the road changes elevations as you progress down its path. When you put them together, the alignment and the profile, you get a 3D chain. And that's what we see in the 3D view down here in the bottom right.
