Understanding alignments

Creating an alignment is one of the first steps you'll want to perform when designing a road in Civil 3D. In this video, we'll discuss alignments at a conceptual level. What are they for? How do they behave? And so on. Lets get started. In the view on the left, you see a corridor. A corridor is a 3D model that represents a road design. And if I zoom in closely to the corridor and place my cursor over the centre line, you'll see alignment. The alignment represents the 2D path of the road design. If I look at the bottom right 3D view, you'll see the same alignment, but notice that it's down at elevation zero. Whereas, the three dimensional aspect of the corridor is up here at it's actual design elevations. The alignment is down here at elevation zero, proving that it's truly a two dimensional object.
