Establishing the edge of the existing road
- One of the trickiest and most important parts of this intersection design is tying into the edge of the existing road. Let's see how you can use an alignment and profile to establish this edge, giving the intersection tools the information they need to do it accurately. I'm in a drawing called "Establish the Edge", and we're going to do this in two steps, or two stages. We're tying into the left edge of the road, and you can see we have two lines here, one representing the edge of the lane, and one representing the edge of the shoulder. We're interested in tying into the edge of the lane, and so we're going to kind of break through the shoulder. We're going to take out a piece of shoulder when this intersection is complete. So, we'll do this in two stages. We'll define it as an alignment first and then a profile. So, I'll go to the "Home" tab of the ribbon, and under "Alignment", I'll pick "Create Alignment from Objects". The tan line we see here happens to be a polyline. So I'll…
